Scenes from Tennis Lessons

I know some of you would rather see "Scenes from Sue's Class Reunion" but they aren't really appropriate for this type of family blog so instead, I will be sharing pictures of the girls at tennis lessons this week.

This week was Meredith's first time taking tennis lessons. Her class was an hour long. She learned the names of all the lines on the court, how to properly hold her racket (or is it racquet?), and how to hit a forehand, backhand, and volley shot. (Shannon, correct me if any of this terminology is wrong.)

The young man in the blue shorts is a saint. He was both Meredith and Allie's coach this week.

Allie has taken tennis lessons before so this year she moved up to the three hour class. I did not stick around to watch much of her lessons as it was three hours of 50% less kids for me to deal with so I took advantage of it!

Here's Allie in action.

They both want to continue with lessons and there are weekly sessions practically all summer long. I plan to sign them up again in July. My goal is to someday have a tennis partner here in Wausau so I can play more than once a year.

Scenes from Soccer

Allie has been playing soccer with the Wausau Area Youth Soccer Association again this summer.

Her team is called the Tsunamis and Jason is the coach.

Grandma and Grandpa have been going to lots of soccer games lately. Cousin Olivia plays on Monday and Wednesday nights and Allie plays on Tuesday and Thursday nights.

Grandma Fay even came to watch Allie play this week.

"Go Tsunamis"!

Majernik's On Ice

The girls just finished up with 8 weeks of ice skating lessons. This was Allie's second time taking basic skills lessons so I knew that she would enjoy it. But I wasn't so sure about Meredith. She does not like to be cold. Her first lesson was on a trial basis. She spent about 15 minutes of the half hour lesson on the ice and then complained of being too cold. She told me that she did like it and wanted to come back the next week so I officially signed her up. After 8 weeks, I'm so impressed with her progress. She stays out on the ice for the entire 30 minutes. She can skate forwards and backwards and follow the instructor's directions. And if you ask her, she'll tell you she can do a spin. And she can! She may end up flat on her belly or bottom but at least she tries!

Go Hawkeyes!

It's college football season at our house so our Saturday's revolve around watching the game and cheering for the Hawkeyes.
Yesterday was the big state rivalry game...
Iowa vs. Iowa State.
Jason had to work but recorded the game so he could watch it later that day. He does not listen to the radio all day for fear he will hear the score before he has a chance to watch the game. I took a sneak peek at the score just before the game ended. The Hawkeyes were winning but he didn't need to know that. When he got home from work I said "well, your going to be mad, the Hawks blew it again". He gets very serious about his Hawkeyes and very often, when they aren't playing as well as he'd like, you can hear him down the basement yelling at the TV.
The game started out slow, then was tied at 3-3 for a while, and he was starting to get really upset. But finally the Hawkeyes scored a touchdown and won the game 17-5. Thank God, otherwise it would have been an awful night at the Majernik house.

The Majernik's Go Kayaking

We went on a 4 hour kayaking tour on Lake Michigan, near the caves of Cave Point County Park. We were in a group with 8 others; another family of 4, a group of 3 friends, and a lone gal whose goal it was to see all 50 states (her next stop is Iowa). Kalen was our awesome guide dude, he was taking the pictures.

Yes, that's Deef napping while I do all of the paddling!

Move Over Venus and Serena...

...here comes Allie!

Tennis is my favorite sport and I'm not too shabby at it either. As long as I can do it my way. I once took lessons after I graduated from college and I actually played worse after I'd learned the correct techniques.

I remember getting my first tennis racket at the thrift store. I spent hours and hours hitting the ball against the big garage doors at the DOT garage where my Dad worked.

Allie has been taking tennis lessons all week. I'm hoping that if she learns the correct way to play tennis from the start, maybe in a few years I'll have a tennis partner.

Scenes From Swimming Lessons

This is Allie's third summer taking swimming lessons through our Parks & Recreation Department. She gets more and more comfortable in the water every day. Today was the last day of lessons for the summer and she passed all her tests to complete Level 1 of the American Red Cross Learn-to-Swim program.

I did not originally sign Meredith up for lessons this year. I was planning to start her next summer, when she would be 4 years old. But seeing Allie go to lessons everyday made her want to join in the fun too. So halfway through the three week session, I signed her up. She was instantly comfortable with the instructor, doing everything that she asked her to do.

Team Galaxy

Allie had her first soccer game last night. She was AWESOME!

A pep talk from Coach Jason.

Our team, Galaxy, played the Rockets.

Here is Allie throwing in the ball.

She was not afraid to get right in there and kick the ball.

Go! Go! Go!

Girl Power!

Good Game Galaxy and Rockets!!

Saturday Morning Bike Ride

I took the kids out on a bike ride this morning. We found a nice paved trail with a bridge that crosses the Wisconsin River. It was so fun. I can definitely see us doing more of this in the future.

Watch Out Dorothy Hamill

Allie is taking ice skating lessons with the Timberline Figure Skating Club in Wausau. I wanted her to give it a try and see if it's something she might want to continue with in the fall. Her lessons are on Thursday evenings and she loves it.

Here are some pictures of her at lessons.

Bumper Bowling

We went out for a fish fry and then bowling with our friends last night. We had so much fun!

Here's Meredith rolling the ball.

And the ball rolling...and rolling...and rolling.

And finally knocking down some pins. She was so excited! This was her first time bowling.

The kids had just as much fun running around the bowling alley. Here they are, showing off their break dancing moves.
