Meredith's First Morning News: Part 2

Good job Kelli!

Either John is an exceptional artist like Meredith or Sean's gotten pulled over once or twice.

Now here is the same drawing with the comments from her teacher! (You can click on the picture to enlarge it.)

Daddy, you are busted! But for the record, he only got a warning!

Meredith's First Morning News: Part 1

You may remember Allie's Morning News from three years ago when she was in Kindergarten. The kids start out each school day by drawing a picture of something interesting that happened the day before. Gradually, they begin to add words to describe their pictures. When Allie was in Kindergarten, and I'd just started my blog, it was fun to post her drawings and cryptic sentences and see who could guess what she was drawing and writing about each day.

Well, now it's Meredith's turn and here is her first Morning News of the year!

Can you figure out what is going on in her drawing? Her teacher had no problem figuring it out!

The Morning News with Allie

Here's Allie's Morning News for Friday, March 21st.

I feel like drawing a little Morning News myself. Here goes...

The girls and I were supposed to leave this morning for our Spring Break trip to Iowa. But since there is a Winter Storm Warning for much of central Wisconsin & Minnesota, we are going to leave tomorrow instead.

The Morning News with Allie: SPECIAL EDITION

In honor of Jason's birthday today, we have a "Morning News" dedicated especially to Dad!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY JASON!

UPDATE: This is a story Allie wrote in her "Writer's Workshop". It goes a little like this..."One day my Dad caught two walleyes that were big and that were frozen!"

The Morning News with Allie

We got home from the hospital yesterday afternoon. We all had a good night's sleep and are back to our usual routines today. Jason took the girls bowling and out for lunch today and now Allie is on her way over to her friend's house and they are going to a movie, "Alvin and the Chipmunks".

Here's this weeks "Morning News". On a scale of 1-10 with 10 being the most difficult, I'd give this one an 8.5. Please email me or post your guesses in the comment section. Good Luck!

UPDATE: I've had 2 guesses so far. The word "HOCIS" is a hard one to figure out. It's not "horses" or "hockey" but you're getting warm!

CLUE:
ANSWER: "I watched the Hawkeyes downstairs". Don't know who she's watching it with, Dad doesn't have that long of hair!

The Morning News with Allie

Sorry I'm posting this so late. I worked today. And tonight, we went bowling with our friends. Here's more artwork by Allie. This shouldn't be too hard.

No guesses?? It's "I had popcorn and watched a show".

The Morning News with Allie

Here's another tricky picture. Coni or Aunt Billie, if you don't get this, I'll be shocked!

Once again, Kim and Charity have figured this out in record time. Don't you two have anything better to do than decode 5 year old babble? If the rest of you are still guessing, scroll down and I'll give you the answer.

The Morning News with Allie

This is a good one! See if you can figure it out.

You're right again Kim! Click on the comments to see her answer. I should title this one "Shirts vs. Skins" (although it looks like everyone is skins). Both Aunt Elaine and Grandma Sharon were able to figure this one out too. Good Job!!

Another installment of The Morning News with Allie

Here's another one. Let's see if you can figure this out!

UPDATE: Good Job Charity! You are correct! Click on the comments to see her answer.

I have a ton of readers (2) who have education degrees so I would expect them to figure these out without too much trouble. I'm hoping that Allie brings home more Morning News drawings from school. I'd like to make this a weekly occurrence.

ANOTHER UPDATE: Good news everybody...Allie just got home from school and brought home a whole notebook full of The Morning News. So look forward to more of my new Friday series...The Morning News with Allie.

Parent-Teacher Conferences

We went to our first official Parent-Teacher Conference last night. I was nervous...you're sitting there in the classroom, at a student desk, basically being graded on how you've raised your child to this point. Thankfully, we got a good grade! I love to hear it when the teacher says, "Everytime I look at Allie, I see her shining eyes and that big smile". She's doing very well in all the areas of learning that is expected of a kindergartener.

One thing they do each day is called "The Morning News". They have time to draw a picture and write about something they did the day before. Allie talks about this a lot but I'd never seen it for myself. Last night we were given some of her papers. Here is her picture of our recent trip to Rib Mountain.

They are taught not to ask the teacher how to spell a word but to sound it out and write what they hear. Sometimes it's challenging to figure out what word they were trying to spell. I had a hard time with the last word from this picture..."hiyc". Any guesses?

"We went to HIKE!" Not too bad for a 5 year old!
